Elephant Pan is a tranquil tented camp in a private concession area NG18 better known as Khwai Private Reserve. The concession stretches from the border of the Moremi Game Reserve in the west, to the boundary with Chobe National Park in the East, and the Khwai Community Area to the south. Under the covers of a mopane cathedral forest, Elephant Pan itself is located in a drier, enclosed woodland area of the concession, overlooking a waterhole in front of the camp.
Elephant Pan consists of eight en-suite tents, furnished with twin beds, solar generated power and gas heated showers. There is an international charging station within each tent for cameras and batteries. At an additional surcharge, guests have the option of a sleep out on the “sky beds” – these are raised decks for sleep outs under the stars (pre-booking required, and guests should be aware that the sleep out is uncovered and no tents are reserved in camp for the night in case of bad weather).
The camp’s main area consists of two lounges and a dining area where meals are served. Guests can relax by the small swimming pool while watching wildlife coming down to drink at the waterhole.
Due to the camp’s distance from permanent channels and rivers, the waterholes in front of camp and by the underground photo hide, attract mammals (such as elephants and kudu) in the drier winter months, when they become the only available water in the immediate area. As a result, the camp’s activities focus on the specialised photographic hide a short drive from camp at this time of year.
Day and night game drives are also possible within the Khwai Private Reserve, as well as into the less-exclusive, wildlife-rich Khwai Community Area, for access to the waterways, riverine woodlands and floodplains on the edge of the Okavango Delta. Guests can also pre book a guided game walk within the Khwai Private Reserve.
Airstrip Transfer Time: 60 minutes from Khwai or Banoka airstrips. A road transfer from Maun to Elephant Pan Tented Camp is approximately 3 to 4 hours.
