Hippo Lakes brings you the ultimate luxury African Safari experience. Situated in the spectacular Waterberg region, the lodge is uniquely nestled along the edge of a lake bank at the end of a long rugged ravine. The lodge offers you a unique safari wildlife encounter with an unusually large number of animals, birds and plant life. Hippo Lakes lies within the malaria-free UNESCO World Nature Site.
Daily game drives are lead by some of the most experienced game rangers in the industry with a passion for wildlife and an unusual gift in communicating with you the wonder of all the creatures you will encounter.
Over 30 animal species roam our area including hippo, buffalo, wildebeest, leopard, giraffe, kudu, sable, eland, nyala, hyaena and wild dog. You also have the option to go on "Big 5" excursions to encounter lion, elephant and rhinos. The greater Waterberg region is reported to have more rhino than all of Kenya and we proudly support anti-poaching initiatives to keep this magnificent species viable.
A highlight is the bush braai (BBQ) dinner on the second night. This is another opportunity for you to connect with your fellow travelers, taste the incredible African cuisine prepared in front of you by our chefs and listen to the sounds of the African night under the canopy of stars and planets breathtakingly visible in the Southern hemisphere.

Safety is key and rest assured, we take great care in both the game drives and accommodations to keep you out of danger from the animals. Your luxury tent and the rockpool Lapa are solidly built above ground on magnificent decks out of reach from the water-based animals. The lodge areas are in an enclosed safe zone where you can freely enjoy the amazing landscape without a ranger. Optional hikes with our experienced rangers outside the safe zone are easily arranged for those with a taste for even more adventure.
The Deluxe Hippo Tent features a spacious patio and private splash pool. With the two queens arrangement, it is ideal for two couples or two friends traveling together that will gladly share a tent. The indoor bathroom has a bath tub and shower. There is also an outdoor shower for the adventurous.

The Deluxe Hippo Tent features a spacious patio and private splash pool. This option differs as it has the ideal family arrangement: one bedroom with two twin beds and a second bedroom with a king bed. The indoor bathroom has a bath tub and shower. There is also an outdoor shower for the adventurous.

The kudu luxury tent, with a lake-side view, features a private room that can be arranged to fit two twin beds or a single king bed as well as a private bathroom en-suite.

The private Waterberg Villa sits above the Hippo Lakes lodge on with a mountain-side view. It features a kitchenette, living room, bath and shower, and is only a short 3-min walk from the main lodge. The queen bed sits in one room and a single bed is in the second room. This option has the choice of self-catering or catering.
The Waterberg Villa features a private jacuzzi, splash pool, luxury living room, full-sized kitchen, fire-pit, boma (enclosed entertainment and barbecue area) - perfect for families and self-catering groups. The villa has a king bed room with an en-suite bathroom, a room with two twins with another en-suite bathroom, as well as a Murphy double bed in the living room.
