Mayukuyuku (meaning water hitting rocks) is situated just downstream of a number of small rapids and faces a small island in the Kafue River.
This small, intimate camp has just 4 en-suite permanent tents under thatched roofs with their own verandahs and hammocks, each one overlooking the river. The adjoining bathrooms are open to the stars, complete with hot shower and flush toilet.
Nearly all structures have been built using natural materials collected from outside the park, this gives the camp a truly rustic, old style safari feel.
The main communal area has an open-sided dining room with a small lounge and bar for an alfresco dining experience. Its location affords fabulous views down the Kafue River in the daytime and hippo or antelope can often be seen grazing on the banks. In the evenings a three course meal is served in a cosy atmosphere with candles and lanterns.
The camp chef only serves fresh produce prepared with a big emphasis on fruit, vegetables and Zambian-sourced meat and fish.
Activities include game drives, guided walking, boat trips. Fishing is popular however guests will need to bring their own fishing gear.
Camp co-ordinates 14º 54´•6 S 26º 03´•5 E
