Macatoo Camp is a horseback safari camp situated on the western side of the Okavango Delta on a palm-fringed island surrounded by grassy plains and seasonal lagoons. The riding terrain from camp is scenically varied in all directions and the horseback excursions promise an incredible wildlife experience.
The camp accommodates up to 14 guests in large, walk-in, twin-bedded tents, each with en-suite bathroom facilities. Centrally there is a large furnished mess tent where guests dine together, an outdoor boma and a private pool tucked away in a secluded area.
The main attraction is the joy of riding good horses over superb country dotted with game. The riding is varied, sometimes quietly walking, stalking big game and admiring the bird life, sometimes cantering through the water-meadows alongside galloping giraffe and lechwe. Please note that there is a level of experience and ability required for horseback safaris and these are not suitable for beginners.
In addition to the riding activities there are also game drives in 4x4 safari vehicles, and night drives, for close up photography of kills and predators. When the water levels permit, boat rides are available for another perspective on the area. Other activities on offer are helicopter rides, bird walks, canoeing and fishing. For those on long stays there is also an option to ride out to a fly camp to overnight in the bush with the horses.

Guests are accommodated in large and airy tents that blend seamlessly into their natural surroundings while still providing a luxurious, but authentic bush haven in which to relax.
Each tent is set on its own large, raised platform, offering panoramic views of a flood plain that can be enjoyed from the deck or even while lying in bed.
One tent is dedicated to single travelers on which no single supplement applies - subject to availability. Otherwise a Single Supplement of 50% on the daily rate would apply but only if not prepared to share twin-bedded accommodation if needed.
A spacious triple tent that can comfortably accommodate three adults is also available. Normal sharing rates applies.
The ‘family and friends suite' comprises two tents, directly linked by a raised walkway and private viewing deck above ground, which provides direct, easy access for parents, children and single travellers who are anxious about sleeping alone. No supplement applies.
The newly-built honeymoon tent for couples celebrating any special occasion, has an additional deck for private dining as well as a raised double tub bath offering a view of the floodplain. Honeymoon supplement charge of £60 per couple per night applies.
A short drive from camp, at the top of a long, sturdy ladder is our magical tree platform where we enjoy lunches, drinks and even the occasional sleepover under the African night sky.
