Luangwa House is a luxurious, self contained and staffed house situated only ten minutes from Nkwali, overlooking a private waterhole against the backdrop of the Chindeni Hills. Luangwa House is the ‘sister’ house to Chongwe House in the Lower Zambezi and perfect for families and private groups.
Accommodation is in a large four bed roomed house, an architectural wonder built with originality and in harmony with nature. You enter through a great wooden (medieval door) to a huge open lounge and dining area with open views to the waterhole.
Each of the four bedrooms has a style of its own with large beds, both king size or twin fit into each room under one mosquito net and a wooden ceiling fan inside each net. The materials used in the bedrooms are hand painted and specifically designed, made locally at Tribal Textiles. Each bathroom has a different theme for the fittings, reflecting the colours of the rooms; from copper for the “Coral room” (including a handmade copper bath) to recycled sandblasted aluminium in the “Blue Agate” bedroom.
The front of the house is completely open and there is a lovely outdoor area with a plunge pool and private deck with seating area overlooking the waterhole.
Access to the South Luangwa National Park is either through the main Mfuwe entrance, by crossing the vehicle pontoon as well as a motorboat crossing when water levels permit. This easy access allows the guides to enter the park early and show guests the incredible wildlife in this part of the South Luangwa. The highly experienced guides also conduct walking safaris for guests over 12 years which allow the unique experience of tracking wildlife on foot and learning about the details of nature.
The house is perfect for families or groups of friends wishing to have a more private experience than at the main lodge, yet with more comforts than the bush camps. However it is not suitable for younger children due to the open staircases and balconies as well as open proximity to the waterhole and swimming pool
