Chongwe River House is a private house situated on the Chongwe River one kilometre away from the Chongwe main camp. The River House overlooks the Lower Zambezi National Park over to the Zambezi Escarpment. The house is an architectural creation by Neil Rocher, built entirely of ferro walls and wildwood, with walls following the natural lines of branches to create a very unique, flowing and natural environ.
The accommodation and facilities at Chongwe River House consist of four bedrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs, each with open views to the front (safety gates on the lower floor). Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom of an individual style, built out of natural material. The downstairs bathrooms have water pouring out of the stone ceilings and the upstairs showers are waterfalls. Taps are made from bone and wood and the basins are hand-crafted out of wood and white marble by Zambian artist Eddie Mumba. The bedrooms and bathrooms each have views across the bush, yet are private. The main lounge and dining area have been carved from a single huge fallen Winterthorn which lies across the room and the ceilings have been embedded with rounded pebbles from the Chongwe River. There is a huge main dining table, bar area and comfortable lounges all open to the front with a view across the river to the National Park. A stunning plunge pool weaves around the front of the house leading down to the River.
Guests participate in activities led by a private guide for the house: guests can enjoy game drives into the Lower Zambezi National Park or spend time on the waterways of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers. The Chongwe area is famous for huge male elephants feeding through the winterthorn grove in which the house is situated and this amazing game experience is enhanced by the fact the Chongwe River itself is the main water source for most of the game in the area.

Time + Tide Chongwe House rests on a peaceful stretch of the Chongwe River, set against a beautiful mountainous backdrop.
A two-storey, four-bedroom, four-bathroom private house, its design blends effortlessly into the undulating landscape around it, with river pebble accents and furniture carved from a fallen winterthorn tree. The house sleeps four to eight people and features private open-air bathtubs and waterfall showers, a large pool and spacious indoor and outdoor lounges with dining areas perfect for spending time together.
Listen to fish eagle calls and the faint sound of a resident family of warthogs ‘mowing’ the grass outside. Watch elephants wade across the river right in front of the house. Savour fine dining in the wild, featuring local and seasonal ingredients.
