Makokola Retreat is located just north of Mangochi, on the palm-fringed southern shore of Lake Malawi. Just a few miles away is Boadzulu Island, the most southern part of Lake Malawi’s National Park and home to many birds, fish and reptiles.
The property offers 9 spacious Lake Villas, nestled in stunning gardens with a full lake view, 26 well appointed beach rooms, 11 family rooms, 13 twin rooms and 2 double rooms. All accommodation is furnished in an African contemporary style.
Enjoy superbly rewarding leisure time including spa escapes, golfing, active pursuits from waterskiing to sailing, walking to a local village or just reading a book. Most of the water activities are focused around the lake. Guests can snorkel the waters which are abundant in fresh water life or watch the sunset as they sail to the island nearby or water-ski close to the beach. The Makokola Retreat is a water lover’s paradise providing equipment and guides for all activities (guided and motorised activities at an additional cost).
An exciting array of land activities awaits guests at the Makokola Retreat. Venture on a village excursion rich in culture or discover the local flora and fauna. More challenging activities include golfing or a beach volleyball match.

The Makokola Retreat has one Executive Beach Villa, furnished in an African contemporary style and just a breath away from the beach. This 2 bedroom en-suite villa is located at the eastern end of the property and is screened by natural indigenous vegetation to ensure maximum privacy. It is perfect for families or a couple requiring a more intimate space.
The Executive Villa has the following features:
