Evolve Back Gham Dhao Lodge is located in the central Kalahari region of Botswana, on the northern border of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The camp overlooks a permanent waterhole offering game viewing from the main lodge. The atmosphere of the lodge is classically African, relaxed and informal.
The lodge accommodates guests in two main accommodation types – the original Kalahari Classic Tents, including one adjoined Family Tent, and the new Sky Luxe Tents.
The Kalahari Classic Tents are comfortably furnished tented accommodation on raised decks sheltered by a unique slatted canopy inspired by traditional dwellings. Each tent has a comfortable sleeping area, ensuite bathroom with indoor/outdoor shower and tea/coffee making facilities. The Kalahari Classic Family tent is two of the Classic tents sharing a joint deck – note that the connection is not enclosed.
The new Sky-Luxe tented rooms offer a luxury upgrade. Each Sky Lux room is under cooling thatch with a spacious sleeping and lounge area facing onto a private deck that leads to a private sky bed under the stars. Each room has an indoor bathroom with a classic clawfoot bathtub and bush view, as well as a secluded open air shower.
The main lodge consists of a lounge, dining room worth communal dining and bar area decorated in wood and thatch. A swimming pool, sun deck, well-appointed bar and an expansive boma eating area are among the facilities available.
Activities at Haina include game drives and night drives with experienced and knowledgeable guides. A highlight is the activity with San Bushmen - a cultural experience where guests are able to interact through a translator guide and learn about their culture and traditions.
This area of the Kalahari is semi desert sandveld dotted with acacia woodland and scrub. Wildlife inhabiting this area includes some desert species of antelope such as springbok and gemsbok as well as other desert dwelling creatures such as jackals, brown hyena, bat eared fox and caracal. You may be lucky enough to find a black-maned Kalahari lion. It is an area that does not feature large congregations of animals, but is extraordinarily beautiful offering vast open plains and clear night skies – not often found in today’s developed world.

Directions to Evolve Back Gham Dhao Lodge
- Take the main road (A3) out of Maun towards Francistown
- About 50 km out of Maun, turn right towards Makalamabedi.
- Drive on for 18km (on and off dirt and tar road) until you reach the veterinary fence gate.
- Go through the fence and turn directly right onto the cut line running south.
- Continue on this straight, sand road for roughly 70km until you reach Kuke corner.
- Enter here and continue along the fence line for 20 km.
- There will be a sign for Haina Kalahari Lodge on the right.
- Enter the gate and continue on the well used road for about 6km until you reach the lodge.
- Travel from Johannesburg CBD towards Brits on the R511.
- Carry on the R511 passed Brits, and turn right onto the R510 towards Thabazimbi, and Lephalele
- Continue passed Lephalale on the R510 until you can turn right onto the R572 towards Martin's Drift or Grobler's Bridge.
- Turn left onto the N11 for the final stretch to Martin's Drift border control.
- From Martin's Drift, drive through Sherwood and continue on the road through Palapye, then taking a left on the A14 to Serowe.
- From Serowe, continue on the A14 to Orapa via Lethlakane.
- About 10km after Lethlakane, before reaching Orapa, turn left towards Mopipi. The road passes Mopipi and continues towards Rakops.
- About 23km after the Rakops police station, take a left onto a dirt road with a sign for DVL and Haina Safari Lodge.
- Continue on this dirt road for about 45km until you reach Kuke corner veterinary gate.
- Pass through the gate and drive along the fence line for 20km until you see a sign and a gate for Haina Kalahari Lodge.
- Go through the gate and drive on the well used road for about 6km before reaching the lodge.
