Overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro river in the heart of Samburu land, Sasaab is a spectacular lodge which blends wildlife, adventure, relaxation and culture for the ultimate safari experience in northern Kenya. The lodge commands breathtaking views across the arid landscape towards the jagged peaks of Mount Kenya. Sasaab’s design is Moroccan in style – each room boasts enormous open air bathrooms, expansive views and private plunge pools.
An exceptional safari experience is offered with sightings of the ‘Samburu Special Five’ (Grevy’s zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk and beisa oryx), as well as authentic experiences with the fiercely proud and colourful Samburu people.
Tents 10 and 11 make up a stunning Samburu family suite. Perched on the cliff not far from the main lodge horizon pool, it offers serenity and seclusion with sweeping views out into the wilderness. The accommodation is spacious, comprising of one double and one twin bedroom each with their own bathrooms, connected by a central island within a generously sized plunge pool and entrance area. There is ample space for reading, birdwatching, practising yoga and general relaxation. Private dining can be arranged upon request (subject to availability).
Our family suite is also suited to groups of friends who want to be together. Please note, our Poolside Family Suite is reached via a winding stairway which descends from the main reception area. As such, it is not suitable for guests with mobility challenges. Due to the unique positioning of the private plunge pool, which is unfenced and on the same level as the bedrooms, we do not recommend this suite for guests with very young children.
Exclusive use of game drive vehicle is included for all guests staying in the Poolside Family Suite.
Tents 8 and 9 at Sasaab provide the ultimate Samburu family suite. Perched a few metres above the sandy banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, they are the lowest tents and command sweeping riverside views out into the wilderness. The accommodation is more than spacious, with large double and twin ensuite bedrooms connected by a breezy open sided lounge area in the middle and an expansive wooden deck out to the front. There are ample seating areas for relaxing, a delightful plunge pool looking out over the river and a rooftop stargazing bed.
The large deck is perfect for private dining if this is required and there is also a separate drive-in entrance to this tent complex should groups wish to avoid walking down the winding gravel pathway from the main dining area.
Our family suite is also ideally suited to groups of friends who want to be together. The central deck, plunge pool and lounge are beautiful spaces for socialising and relaxing with loved ones.
Exclusive use of game drive vehicle is included for all guests staying in the Riverside Family Suite.
The luxury suites are incredibly spacious and designed to act as a private sanctuary. Each has a private plunge pool, a chill out space (either a veranda or mini-garden), and a large open-fronted bathroom. Seclusion, tranquility and spectacular wild views characterise every room. Rooms 1 to 4 have rooftop stargazing beds (and all other rooms will do soon).
The lodge is situated on quite a steep bank, so it is recommended that anyone with less mobility requests a room nearest to the main reception area which is more easily accessible.
