Somalia is one of Africa’s edgier destinations, and travel here is not currently advised. This is a shame - for all its unrest, the country is both aesthetically stunning and culturally fascinating. Adventurous souls who travel to the Horn of Africa will experience pristine beaches and coral reefs, a fusion of African and Arabic heritage, intriguing archaeological sites and unique wildlife. Somaliland - semi-autonomous but still officially part of the country - is one of the safest regions, with some fascinating attractions such as the Laas Geel rock art paintings, dating back thousands of years.
