&Beyond Ngala Safari Lodge is set within the Ngala Private Game Reserve which shares an unfenced boundary alongside the western region of the Greater Kruger National Park, South Africa’s largest wildlife conservancy.
Nestling beneath the shade of huge mopane and tamboti trees, twenty-one thatched rooms capture the nostalgic feel of bygone bush days with gracious modern finishes. All air-conditioned rooms have en-suite bathrooms and private verandas. Three are family rooms and one is a spacious, private family suite with own swimming pool.
The central lodge areas continue the theme of old-world charm and include the lounge, bar, library and courtyard style outdoor dining venue where delicious breakfasts and lunches are served. An elegant lantern-lit boma offers a beautiful setting for dinners (weather permitting). For wellness and relaxation in between activities, Ngala Safari Lodge features a well-equipped fitness centre, swimming pool with sundeck and spa (all spa treatments at additional cost).
Numerous antelope, good populations of secretive predators and bird life abound in this sector of the reserve. Guests may be fortunate to see large game including elephant, buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. Afternoon game drives continue into the evening, affording good potential to catch a glimpse of nocturnal animals. Birding is excellent especially during the summer months when many migrant species return to the region.

Ngala Safari lodge has 20 air-conditioned thatched cottages with ensuite bathrooms including a shower, twin hand basins, wc, bath. Each cottage has an intimate veranda.
The lodge boasts three family cottages, each consisting of two suites that are conveniently interlinked via a door for easy access. The cottages exude a romantic colonial ambiance with nostalgic safari memorabilia throughout. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows make the most of sunny safari days and a private veranda offers the perfect setting for private dinners. Guests can also take advantage of spacious ensuite bathrooms as well as inviting al fresco showers. The cottages can accommodate two adults and two children.
Situated in the shade of a weeping boerbean tree on the banks of the seasonal Mapone River, the Family Villa* at andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge consists of three bedrooms (two adult rooms each with an ensuite bathroom and one smaller children’s room with an ensuite bathroom), as well as a cosy dining area where you can choose to enjoy a private dining experience or a refreshing sundowner cocktail. The services of a dedicated butler as well as an expert ranger and tracker team and a private safari vehicle also comes standard.
The only guest villa at the lodge with views of the riverbed, two of the rooms boasts their own private deck overlooking the shaded riverbed and two luxurious outdoor showers (the adult rooms) allowing guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of the bush. The addition of a private swimming pool and shaded lounge area ensures that both children and adults have a secluded place to cool off from the African sun.
*The Family Villa can accommodate a maximum of six guests
Directions to andBeyond Ngala Safari Lodge
...
- Take the N12/N4 through Witbank, then later left onto the R540 to Belfast (opposite the Engen Fuel Station).
- In Belfast, turn right towards Dullstroom and Mashishing (Lydenburg).
- In Mashishing (Lydenburg) look out for the information boards directing you to the R36 to Ohrigstad. Follow the signs to R36 Ohrigstad, Hoed
- It is marked 47 km to Ohrigstad as you leave Mashishing. Stay on the R36.
- Pass through Ohrigstad, later over the beautiful Abel Erasmus Pass and through the JG Strydom tunnel, following the signs to Hoedspruit.
- Once in Hoedspruit, drive straight through town, over the railway line bridge. Turn right at the stop street onto the R40 to Klaserie.
- After approximately 7km turn left at the Timbavati / East Gate signs. Sign in at the security boom and continue straight for about 17 km.
- You will cross the Klaserie River and check in at the Timbavati Control Gate.
- At the Timbavati gate, sign the visitors book and pay a road levy per vehicle (plus for a trailer).
- Please Note: an additional conservation fee (per person) is now payable at the gate.
- Follow the road for about 13 km until you reach a big right turn.
- There is a stone marker indicating that Ngala Safari Lodge is 14.5 km to the right.
- The road is gravel from here. After about 6km turn left and continue straight for about 7 km.
- There are 2 sandy rivers to cross. Quicker is better than slower!
- At the top of the hill, follow the Ngala sign on the right for another 2 km to the Lodge.
- Please be aware, as you approach the Lodge that you are in a wilderness area where predators and high-profile game roam freely.
- Do not leave your car for any reason.
- It is suggested that you call Ngala as you pass through the Timbavati Control Gate.
- In this way we can prepare for your arrival and also respond in the unlikely event that you have vehicle trouble.

- Pass through White River and continue through Hazyview, past Acornhoek towards Klaserie (all on the R40).
- Pass the turn marked Orpen and then just before the concrete over-head railway bridge at Klaserie, turn right towards Hoedspruit.
- Please note that this is still the R40.
- 7km before Hoedspruit, turn right towards Eastgate Airport / Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.
- Sign in at the security boom and continue straight for about 17 km.
- You will cross the Klaserie River and check in at the Timbavati Control Gate.
- At the Timbavati gate, sign the visitors book and pay a road levy per vehicle (plus for a trailer).
- Please Note: an additional conservation fee (per person) is now payable at the gate.
- Follow the road for about 13 km until you reach a big right turn.
