The lodge is located in a private concession area on the very southern boundary of Moremi Game Reserve; the boundary is unfenced allowing free wildlife movement between the areas. Santawani is unique because it is fully owned by the local community members through the Sankuyo Tshwaragano Management Trust, which is made up of local community owners.
Six simple twin-bedded, en-suite chalets and a bar /dining area looking out onto the fireside and waterhole belie the warmth generated by the staff, members of the local community of Sankuyo and native to the area.

Santawani offers traditional day and night game-drives in this private concession, known far and wide as being especially rewarding for game, and predators in particular. Professional guides accompany guests to the frequently visited drinking spots and open plains teeming with animals, plants and birdlife. Santawani offers a perfect all-round safari experience with its walking and water-based activities.

The endangered African wild dog is a fairly common and special sighting, especially when they den during June - August as they sometimes den within the area. This concession has also been used for lion research for many years. The Gomoti River runs close by the lodge providing a home to an abundant variation of mammal and bird species.
