Lewa Wilderness
Lewa Wilderness is a rustic property perched on the escarpment at 1,700 metres, which has style in the way that Campi ya Kanzi has style. It is a very energetic place; lots going on all the time and guests feel very much part of it. It was previously owned by the Craig Family who still live on Lewa Downs and have influence. They are the family who hosted William and Kate at the time of the wedding proposal. Now owned by TNC (The Nature Conservancy) which was the request of the family
Lewa Wilderness contains 2 separate wings. There is a main area, which comprises 3 thatched family cottages, a reception lounge full of books and interesting memorabilia. There is a shop and a safe in this area. You then walk through lawns to the bar and dining area. A few steps on and you are in the pool area. The pool and dining area are perched on the edge of the escarpment with the river meandering down below.
A second wing contains the Hillside Cottages. From the central area you walk for about 5 minutes crossing lawns and flowers to the new hillside cottages, which cling to the escarpment, and most have excellent views.
Lewa Wilderness, features the following: Communal dining, and such is the ambience of the property, it would not work otherwise. Infinity pool with sunbeds and a pool bar where you help yourself. Tennis, table tennis and billiards. Horses, camels, game walks and local visits. Scenic Flights! With a small charter from the lodge airstrip. Game viewing is good and there are various hides and blinds. Hot water is 24/7. Electricity is from 06.30 – 10.30 and 18.30 – 22.30 and powered by the generator
The original rooms are in the Main Area and comprise 3 thatched cottages with 2 rooms, and are suitable for families. Bedroom One is with 3 beds and an en suite with bath tub, walk in shower, basin and WC. Bedroom Two is a double with an en suite without a bath tub. The rooms are joined by a lounge and a verandah. The better accommodation is in the 6 Hillside Cottages which are all different in location and size and style. There is one duplex room with 2 double beds, and 2 single beds on a Mezzanine Floor. It has 1 en suite with walk-in shower, and a furnished verandah overlooking the river and gorge. Room 10 is probably the nicest, as it has a private plunge pool, a day bed and a master bedroom with an en suite bath tub, walk-in shower, His and Hers basins, and a furnished verandah with a spectacular view. A small lounge leads to a second bedroom with an en suite with similar features except there is no bath tub. Room 11 has 3 beds and an en suite with a bath tub and a huge walk-in shower, but it lacks the spectacular view of the others. The other three cottages have a bedroom and en suite shower and verandah with various views.
The main airstrip is within 30 minutes. There is another within 5 minutes for small charter flights.
