Madikwe Safari Lodge

Madikwe’s wooded hills give way to savannah and Kalahari plains, roamed by all of the Big Five and countless other mammals. Look up and you will see hundreds of resident and migrant birds gracing its skies. Coupled with the reserve being malaria-free, this all makes for a special place to explore.

While the luxury of Madikwe Safari Lodge lies in having direct access to some of South Africa’s best Big Five safari experiences, it is also the pleasure of coming back to thoughtful comforts, warm hospitality, and excellent meals after several hours in the bush that defines five-star stays here. The Madikwe brand of luxury comes standard, and what sets each of its retreats apart is its unique feel – appealing to different travelers.

Lelapa Camp is the most family-oriented camp within Madikwe Safari Lodge, designed to accommodate guests of all ages in a relaxed and welcoming safari environment. Its layout, suite mix, and shared spaces make it particularly well suited to families and multi-generational travel, while remaining equally comfortable for couples and small groups.

The camp overlooks Madikwe Safari Lodge’s signature waterhole, which attracts a wide variety of wildlife throughout the day and evening and forms a central focal point for the camp’s main guest areas.

Kopano Camp is an intimate camp within Madikwe Safari Lodge, designed for guests seeking a quieter and more private safari experience while still having access to the shared facilities of Lelapa Camp. With a limited number of suites and a refined camp layout, Kopano is particularly well suited to couples, honeymooners, solo travellers, and friends travelling together.

Dithaba Camp is perched on a hillside, offering elevated panoramic views over the expansive plains of Madikwe Game Reserve. Its remote positioning and thoughtful layout create a sense of privacy and understated exclusivity, making it a strong choice for couples, small groups of friends, or older families seeking a more secluded safari experience.

Though slightly removed, Dithaba Camp remains a short walk or drive from the other camps, and guests have full access to the shared facilities at Lelapa Camp and Kopano Camp.

Elela Villa is Madikwe Safari Lodge’s private villa offering, designed for guests seeking maximum privacy, flexibility, and independence within a luxury safari setting. Positioned along the elevated ridge and closely connected to the other camps within the collection, the villa combines the benefits of a standalone safari home with access to the wider Madikwe Safari Lodge facilities.

Elela Villa is particularly well-suited to families, small groups of friends, or multi-generational travellers who value space, exclusivity, and a highly personalised safari experience.

Lelapa Lodge (12 rooms)

Lelapa literally means ‘family’, and this is exactly how we want you to feel - there is no restriction in terms of age or generation. Many of us have kids of our own, so we know and understand what an unforgettable experience it is for children to be in the bush. We have taken a lot of time to design a kids’ menu of activities, which will keep juniors entertained, and parents relaxed. The recent addition of a communal pool will no doubt provide hours of enjoyment and simple relaxation, best spent in the company of family and new-found friends.

Each of the 12 Suites is spacious, comfortable and ever respectful of the natural environment beyond. Indoor and outdoor showers, private plunge pool and wood-burning fireplace are just some of the added creature comforts to enhance Mother Nature’s subtle signature.

Each Suite is approximately 100 m2/1080 ft2, and has a double bed (convertible to twins), air-conditioning, ceiling fan, bathroom en-suite, safe, mini bar, direct-dial telephone, hairdryer and a range of deluxe amenities.

Two rooms are Family Suites, and have a second bedroom with children’s bunk beds, and sleeper couch.

Kopano Lodge (4 rooms)

Kopano directly translated means ‘small gathering’. The Lodge comprises just 4 Suites (each with private plunge pool) which share a magnificent common area. Fine dining to the hoot of an owl, the roar of a lion or the crazed whoop of a hyena is the stuff that dreams are made of. Note, children of 16 and older are welcome.
