Why stay here?
Place: Xigera Camp lies deep within the Delta on the lush, aptly-named Paradise Island. The semi-permanent water allows for sublime mokoro and motorboat outings, and it is also a renowned birding area. Depending on water levels, daily game drives encounter lion and wild dog while the area is famous for having the highest density of the elusive sitatunga antelope in the Delta.
Accommodation: Set on wooden decks Xigera has nine beautifully-furnished tents (including a family unit) built in a clever mix of wood and canvas and with views of a seasonal floodplain and small lagoon. The lounge and dining area overlooks a permanently flowing channel. The camp "newspaper" (a sand pit built into the bridge to capture paw prints) reveals the previous night’s unseen visitors.
Purpose: Xigera makes use of solar energy for its electricity requirements and is an example of how the company is committed to minimising its environmental impact and operating in the most sustainable manner possible.
