Notes:
Each departure is guaranteed with a minimum of 2 confirmed guests and operates with a maximum of 7 guests per safari.
Should all other bookings on an Exploration cancel, reducing the group to one guest, we will convert the booking to an FIT package and in all likelihood at an increased price.
Guests need to arrive in Windhoek no later than 10:00 on the day of departure (we recommend that guests overnight in Windhoek before the start of the safari). If guests arrive after this time, they will need to be air transferred to their first camp, at an additional charge. The safari ends in Windhoek on the last day at approximately 13:00. Guests will therefore need to depart on a late afternoon flight (after 15:30) or overnight in Windhoek.
Age Limits - children from the age of 12 years are welcome on all scheduled departures. For parties with children under 12 years, a private tailor-made safari is suggested and gladly quoted for on request.
Please note that road transfers in Namibia are primarily on gravel roads which may cause discomfort for guests with back or kidney problems. The safari does include a few medium / long road transfers, so please consult your General Practitioner for advice if this may be of concern.
The route will be flexible, changing with the seasons to maximize each guest’s experience. Please ensure that you have the correct information. We also reserves the right to change itineraries due to unusual game concentrations or reason beyond our control. If there is a change to itinerary, this will be advised as timeously as is possible.
Some of the areas in which you will travel are private concessions, whilst at the lodges and hotels en route there is the chance to meet other guests.
Please ensure that full dietary requirements and special occasions are advised at the time of your booking confirmation.
Whilst travelling on this safari you will be with other guests doing the same itinerary and some of the camps included on the itinerary are not exclusive to the Exploration hence you will be with other guests who are from different parts of the world and who are of various ages. To get the most out of your safari experience, co-operation and harmony between you and your fellow guests is essential.
The enclosed vehicles are specially designed and extended Land Rovers, seating 8 guests in comfort. They have good forward visibility and 7 window seats - all guests are requested to change seats from one day to the next to ensure equal photographic opportunities for everyone. The roof is a “pop top” which is opened when game viewing and there are 6 sliding windows which can be opened for photography or closed in dusty or seasonally rainy conditions. Each vehicle is custom-built and includes a fridge, 12V (cigarette lighter) charging points, seat pockets and a small library with reference books and field guides. Still water and juice are provided in the vehicle for the duration of the safari.
Accommodation at Kulala Adventurer Camp and Damaraland Adventurer Camp is comprised of semi-permanent 3 metre x 3 metre (9.84 feet x 9.84 feet) well-ventilated dome tents with a mini verandah (maximum of two guests per tent) on a slightly raised wooden platform, covered in shade cloth. Wooden beds with mattresses, crisp linen, duvets and pillows plus towels and amenities (soap, shower gel and conditioning shampoo) are provided. In addition, there is a coir mat (inside) and a 12V reading light. The tents are large enough to stand in and move easily. The canvas-wrap open air en-suite bathroom (zip door) is accessible through the rear of tent and has a flush toilet, basin and shower – with hot and cold running water available whenever guests require. The aim at these camps is to provide a simple, yet comfortable and serviced, camping experience. Hurricane lanterns and a good campfire light up the evening camp. Delicious meals are prepared around the campfire by the safari staff, creating a great atmosphere. The dining area, with dining table, metal director chairs plus bush-style stainless steel place settings and drinks glasses, is under the stars (although a bush dining tent is erected in the event of sporadic rains), adding to the ‘camping wild’ feel.
No triple rooms are accepted on the safari. This safari is limited to a 20 kg (44 lb) luggage allowance (in soft bags only with no wheels or frame) per person.
Please ensure you have a sufficient amount of US Dollars/Euro in cash of small denominations, as it can be difficult to get any US$ or Euros outside of major centres. We suggest that you allow for US$ 25.00 per day to cover the cost of basic souvenirs (within reason), and more for high valued souvenirs. It is essential that you bring a good torch - we recommend bringing a two D-cell torch/flashlight and/or a head lamp. You should also bring a spare globe and batteries as they are often unobtainable locally. A good flashlight is not a mini-Maglight or a small penlight flashlight.
Note that a 12V cigarette lighter adaptor (compatible with your camera) will be required on this safari for charging batteries while on game drives or transfer drives. 110/220V outlets are only available at some properties.
Spare batteries are essential (we recommend that you bring three spare batteries) and an image storage device of some sort is recommended. Make certain you have enough card storage – most people take more photographs than expected. Charging facilities for video cameras are very limited when on safari, so please bring enough batteries to last you at least three days of video filming.
Tipping is not compulsory. If, however, you would like to tip because you have received good service, we have enclosed a brief guideline to assist you. You may wish to add a nominal amount ranging between US$ 10.00 to US$ 30.00 per day for incidentals (subject to personal budget choice) – i.e. if additional activities are booked once on your journey, if travel arrangements change for any reason, in acknowledgement of good service received in another area.
We would like to emphasise that tipping is definitely not a requirement and should be undertaken only by choice, dependent on the service received.
