As one of the most remote areas of the Kaokoveld, privacy is utmost at Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp. Rugged and dramatic landscapes are edged by a long, cold coastline and the odd shipwreck bears testament to the violent seas.
All times of the year are good to visit Hoanib but expect cooler temperatures from May to August, which brings about foggy mornings and wind in the afternoon. There is a low risk of rain in the summer months from December to March. This is a low risk malaria area.
A series of phenomenal oases provide sustenance to the wildlife that has adapted to surviving in this arid environment.
The itinerary includes game drives along dry riverbeds, searching for desert elephant, giraffe, gemsbok and springbok. You will also visit the seal colony and shipwreck debris on the coast. Wildlife that may be encountered on the coastal stretches includes black-backed jackal and potentially lion or brown hyaena.
