Today we make our way to beautiful Knysna. The gem of the Garden Route.
After a picture stop at the famous Knysna Heads, we continue to the Knysna Elephant Park. Following a short video, you are transported to the field where you have the opportunity to interact, feed and walk amongst a herd of African elephants. You also have the opportunity to purchase an ‘elephant snack bucket’ to feed the elephants during your visit.
Afterwards we continue to the Knysna Waterfront to embark on a 4 hour excursion to the Featherbed Nature Reserve.
The excursion includes:
- Return ferry trip on the Knysna Lagoon to the Western Head.
- 4x4 vehicle & trailer drive up the headland onto the Reserve, stopping at spectacular viewpoints.
- Specialist guide giving information on history, fauna & flora.
- Optional guided 2.2km walk through coastal forest and fynbos into ancient sea caves.
- World renowned buffet lunch at an outdoor restaurant setting under a canopy of Milkwood trees.
- Wonderful family outing, suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
We arrive back at your hotel in the late afternoon.
Knysna is a natural paradise of lush, indigenous forests, tranquil lakes and golden beaches. She nestles on the banks of a breathtakingly pretty lagoon, now a protected marine reserve that is home to the extraordinary sea horse and over 200 species of fish.
Beaches, lakes, mountains and rivers provide endless opportunity for leisure and outdoor adventure. Within the town, craft shops, flea-markets and cosy cafés beckon with small-town charm and hospitality. The area around Knysna is a veritable Garden of Eden. This is home of the only forest elephant in South Africa, the rare Pansy Shell, the brilliantly coloured, and elusive, Knysna Loerie, a plethora of waterfowl and forest birds, dolphins and visiting whales.
