Discover Johannesburg, ‘City of Gold’ and South Africa’s beating economic heart. Take a journey through the city’s history as you visit major attractions such as Nelson Mandela bridge and Mary Fitzgerald Square, a large public space named after South Africa’s first trade unionist and decorated with large heads made from railway lines. Next, we will travel to the bustling, social and creative hub of the Newtown district. Here you will find a large number of galleries, craft markets and cafes. The tour will continue to the Carlton Centre and then on to Constitution Hill, one of South Africa’s most important historical sites. This area includes a variety of attractions that tell the story of South Africa and its journey to democracy, such as the Number Four Jail, a prison specifically for non-white men. You will also have a photo opportunity at Museum Africa.
