Situated just off the Antarctic Peninsula, Cuverville Island lies off the west coast of Graham Land. It boasts a dramatic mountainous landscape blanketed in snow and dotted with little gentoo penguins. It is a photographer's paradise and offers some of the best photographic opportunities in Antarctica. The main attraction is the breeding colony of over 6,500 pairs of gentoo penguins, which has seen the island declared an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area by BirdLife International. Visitors can also spot southern giant petrels, Antarctic shags and minke whale on occasion.
