Situated just off the coast of the Kiev Peninsula in Antarctica’s Graham Land, the little island of Petermann is a popular destination. The island stretches for almost 2 kilometres in length and just over 1 kilometre in width, featuring steep rocky coastlines with pebble beaches, and a large crevassed ice cap. Petermann Island has been listed as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, as it is home to a diversity of bird species such as Adelie penguins, petrels, and imperial shags. Other commonly spotted wildlife includes leopard seals, humpback whales, and gentoo penguins.
