Monfragüe is a Spanish national park noted for its bird-life. It is situated in the center of a triangle formed by Plasencia, Trujillo and the city of Cáceres within the province of Cáceres.The nature reserve and sanctuary were created in 1979 to protect wildlife and bird species, becoming a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2003 and a National Park in 2007.

Monfragüe is populated by 280 vertebrate species and is the global stronghold for two spectacular raptors: the enormous black vulture and the beautiful Iberian imperial eagle. In all, 3 species of vulture breed here along with 5 species of eagle, 3 species of kite and 2 species of harrier. A large number of waterfowl species are found in and around the reservoir and the rivers around it.
