The 3000 people of Simonga are a mix of the Lozi and Tonga tribes. The villagers generally make a living from agriculture, supplemented by catches from the Zambezi. Simonga has benefited from the development of tourism in the area and some residents now offer village tours.

A typical visit to the village would start at the receiving area, where the visitors are. From there they would be taken to see some of the households and shown the day by day life of the villagers, including cooking, traditional animal husbandry practices and a visit to the school.
