Situated 32 kilometres south-west of Mthatha in the stunning green landscapes of the Eastern Cape, the rural village of Qunu is famously the hometown of Nelson Mandela. In neighbouring Mthatha, an incredible museum dedicated to Tata Madiba gives visitors an insight into the extraordinary history of the man, through award-winning photos, quotes from his book and interesting memorabilia. The town is infused with an innate sense of pride about its deep-rooted Xhosa culture, which the president was very much part of, and visitors will be enthralled by the unique customs, clothing and way of life which continues here as it has for centuries. The Hluleka Nature Reserve offers a breathtaking golden beach and astonishing birdlife, and at the Dwesa Cwebe Nature Reserves, visitors can see buffalo, eland, blesbok, blue wildebeest, warthog, and crocodiles.
