The area of Sattal (Seven Lakes) is located in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand in northern India. This area of extreme natural beauty - the meeting-point of seven freshwater lakes - is most easily accessed from the town of Bhimtal, and is a must for outdoor lovers. With their thick oak and pine forest surroundings, the lakes of Sattal form one of the most pristine biomes in the country, offering unique bird watching opportunities in addition to fantastic walking trails and relaxing cruises on the waters. The natural spring of Subhash Dhara is a highlight of the area, as is the excellent Butterfly Museum, which showcases more than 2,500 species. Note that there is resort-style lodging available in Sattal for those who wish to spend more time in this jewel of the Mehragaon Valley.
